About the Homestead
Our homestead doesn’t look like the ones you often see online.
We’re not raising large herds of animals or farming acres of land. Instead, our life is built around something just as meaningful — a three-generation home where simple living, shared meals, and strong community shape our days.
For many years we tried to do everything ourselves, believing that homesteading meant independence. But life has a way of reshaping our understanding of what truly matters.
When my husband suffered a heart attack, our world shifted overnight. Suddenly, the idea of doing everything on our own was no longer possible. We had to slow down. We had to accept help. And in doing so, we discovered something far more valuable than self-sufficiency.
We discovered community.
Neighbors began stopping by more often. Friends came to check on us. Meals were shared, stories were exchanged, and everyday life became something we experienced together instead of alone.
Living in a rural community has shown us that the old ways of life were never really about one family doing everything themselves. They were about people helping one another, sharing work, sharing food, and showing up when it matters most.
Our home now reflects that spirit.
Three generations share this space. The kitchen is rarely quiet. Pots simmer on the stove, bread rises on the counter, and there’s always someone coming through the door — sometimes just to visit, sometimes to lend a hand, and sometimes simply because that’s what neighbors do.
Here at Fun on the Homestead, we share the rhythms of that life:
• cooking from scratch
• stocking the pantry
• learning traditional skills
• finding joy in simple things
• and building a home centered on community rather than perfection
Our homestead is not about doing everything alone.
It’s about remembering that life was never meant to be lived that way.
It’s about friendship, shared tables, and neighbors who feel like family.
Welcome to our homestead.
